Get Your Feet in Shape: Part Two

First of all, I’m so excited that Birkenstocks were all over the runways during the recent Fashion Week in NYC. According to this fashionista article, Birkenstocks will be “hotter than ever” next spring/summer. J.Crew already partnered with Birkenstock to offer a men’s line (what about women’s??). The article suggests that the classic two-strap Arizona in black will be the “it” Birk like the class brown UGG. I don’t know… I think the thong style could also be the “in” style. Check out these celebs recently sporting Birkenstocks:

So go get your Birkenstocks!

Also, coincidentally, in this month’s Runner’s World, there was an excellent 1-pager on stretches for plantar fasciitis.

Basically ice and pain relievers (and Birkenstocks!) will help with the pain, but you really need to stretch and work to strengthen the muscles and tendons. These exercises are recommended to be done daily:
– Calf Raises
– Towel Curls – similar to the marble pick-up, bunch up your toes to grab a small towel that is laying on the ground. This strengthens the arch muscles
– Doming – again similar to the marble pick-up, form your foot into an arch/dome with toes pointed down on ground and heels planted. This works the calf and arch muscles.
– Step Stretch – lower heels off step
– Toe Spread and Squeeze – need a toe separator and a rubber band.

This last one reminded me of how much I love the toe separators at nail salons – it feels so good to have your toes separated! This helps with plantar fasciitis?! Apparently. Yoga Toes claim to help with plantar fasciitis as well as general foot pain and tightness. Kind of pricey but look amazing.

Wish they weren't $40...
